The wonderful scent of a spring breeze before the rain with hints of tropical fruits and flowers delight the nose. Clean, fresh and lightly acidic passionfruit, gooseberry and kiwifruit refresh the palate. This single vineyard, estate grown savagnin is an entrancing wine for warm afternoons and evenings.

Pair with light dishes of chicken and seafood, hors d’oeuvres or just on its own.

“Open-top fermented with some flor influence in its winemaking backdrop. Apt for the variety! It’s a gently fruity, lightly saline and nutty white wine of interest and detail, set to medium weight. Flavours deliver a gentle but compelling array of savoury elements, from honey-glazed cashew to fino sherry with a thrust of briny, saline, minerally tang. While the fruitiness is perhaps a little overt overall, and the flor influence could go further, this is a delicious drink. Cleverly made to eke out additional oomph from this excellent variety”.  HALLIDAY, 2022

The wine is produced from the very noble white variety of Jura, France – savagnin. This is a dry, straightforward style a long way away from the intense and complex wines of Jura, and fair enough, being from the Granite Belt, albeit it loses some of the potential of savagnin. Here, it presents as a light, crisp white of citrus, green apple and faint pear and elderflower characters. It delivers refreshment factor and baseline complexity. It’s thirst-quenching and easy drinking. Fine and dandy.” HALLIDAY 2024

“Nutty, briny, mealy and baked apple aromas are at play. Sweet and fleshy on entry, then citrus, passionfruit and stone fruit kick in. The acidity is high and delivers real tang and presence. ” THE REAL REVIEW 2024

“A very floral white flower bouquet pierced with citrus and tropical fruits and layered with pears, there is also a late orangey/briny character which makes me think there may be some wild yeast at play here. The bouquet is certainly very fresh and packed with genuine verve.

The acidity is almost racy but perhaps best described as cleansing and uplifting with pristine qualities and no doubt persuades the fruit to present some refreshing excitement. Talkative Nashi pears are engaging with green apples, limes and some almost reticent orange rind. White flesh peaches are a gentler influence until they are uplifted with some lemon, grapefruit and yellow kiwifruit. The wine is long, clean and rather exhilarating and a definite presence of Granite Belt minerals further animates the finish.

I first encountered Savagnin in Australia at Pikes Wines at Polish River Hill it was a solid wine but this one is a complexed delight. You will want to pair the wine with food it reminds your whole body with focused celerity of what appetite is.  Savagnin, a late ripening variety, has small green berries with thick skins and a medium packed bunch, it may well suit The Granite Belt.  The variety has good natural acidity and the Granite Belt terroir seems to amplify that somewhat across all the features of the grape so it creates another dimension to the variety.”   PETER PACEY, REVIEWER
